i have reinstalled arch seeing this vid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xynotc9BKe8

i created 4 subvol @,@home,@snapshots,@var_log with snapper
and i didn't like snapper so i uninstalled it and installed timeshift and now timeshift cannot create scheduled snaps. FYI it create on demand snaps

Re: time shift not creating scheduled snapshot btrfs

I don't use timeshift anymore but IIRC timeshift uses cron to make scheduled backups. Make sure you have the cron package installed.

I personally use a very dumb script and let the rest be done by a couple of dummy static services and timers from systemd with instances or whatever they are called...

Now then, is the cron service enabled?

I don't have much incentive to back up my root partition (which timeshift is basically designed to do) since I can recreate my root partition from scratch in about an hour if necessary, as long as I can boot into a reasonably recent arch ISO.

If I have to back up the root partition, I'lll probably use rsync or partclone from the arch ISO. I'm a bit partial to partclone since it allows me to compress the backup image so it takes considerably less disk space. rsync OTOH is convenient if I want to access individual files from the backup.

Anyway, the arch forum generally frowns upon threads that degenerate into product recommendations, so it's best to go back on-topic of how to fix your timeshift set-up. As @GaKu999 mentioned, check if cron is enabled. Beyond that, I'm out of ideas. Maybe someone actively using timeshift can help.
