ThanksBut I got a new problem
opt/gnome/bin/gconftool-2: error while loading shared libraries: libORBit-2.so.0:
It don't seem to be installed correct - what can I do?
do you have orbit2 installed? that file is contained in there. install it from pacman and see if that works.
bigbob73 wrote:ok, i added the karsten repo. Now, if i want to install 2.16 (no gnome installed atm) do i need to disable the other repos?
first don't modify pacman.conf and do a
# pacman -S xorg gnome gnome-extras
then add the repo to pacman.conf and do a
# pacman -Syu
see if that works.
I have orbit2... but its 2.14.x where can I find one for 2.16.x?

/opt/gnome/bin/gnome-settings-daemon doesn't exist on my system...so i cannot get into the desktop whatsoever.
any ideas?
EDIT: nm, it's there (under libexec). i'm still getting the following error however:
"The last error message was:
Process /opt/gnome/libexec/gnome-settings-daemon received signal 4"

i dont' know. my entire system is hosed, it won't even boot. gnome-vfs-daemon just sits and cycles through endless segfaults
gnome-vfs-daemo[10090]: segfault at fffffffffffffffa rip 00002ad1bdd105a5 rsp 00007fffeee93f60 error 4
i'm not sure what happened.

I got vte to compile and install by commenting out the patchfiles in PKGBUILD. Working on gnome-terminal now!
edit: just did a pacman -Uf to install gnome-terminal 2.16 it worked.

i've installed gnome without adding the new repo on the pacman.conf, but when i've added the repo, pacman can't find any package to update...i've tried to updating one by one, but seems that pacman ignores the new repo

@ Cagnulein
try adding it as the top repository in your pacman.conf

When I use the repo, nothing shows, no programs work, only the two panels show up, but nothing else, I can't drag anything, or click anywhere, and yes I am using dbus-launch. Maybe I need to upgrade dbus? mm

I've had the same problem: for me,adding "sudo /etc/rc.d/dbus restart" to the session solve the problem

Upon startup, Nautilus crashes. Also, can't execute any programs in the GNOME menu; however, I can launch applications if I make a shortcut on the menu bar.
UPDATE: I installed several other programs from the karsten repo such as gedit, eog, evince, gnome-power-manager, gcalctool, etc... and one of them must of had a dependency that fixed my problem because everything is working as they should.
