Glitched Cursor

Hi everyone, i recently installed Arch and DWM as WM and as soon as i started the WM it shows up a problem: my mouse cursor is glitched and deformed. I mean it's really bigger than normal and full of lines, in one word is glitched.

I tried to change the cursor theme with lxappearance but it didn't help because, for example I changed the color and I am able to see the different color but the glitch remains.
I even tried to edit the file .Xresources but it didn't help neither.

Can someone help me, please?
Thank you

Re: Glitched Cursor

In one word: 1000 words. (ie. a screenshot)
Also

xrandr -q
xdpyinfo | grep resolution

and do you also use a compositor (picom)?

logical and physical DPI matches and are common at 96.
This might or not have been lost in the pun, but please provide a screenshot of the issue.

Re: Glitched Cursor

Here is your 1000 word equivalent picture. I had to snap it with a digital camera, because using Gimp or Screenshot, with the option to grab also the mouse pointer, produced a normally looking cursor. Running up to date Arch, Xorg on GeForce GT 720.

What did produce a normal pointer was going to Settings - Display (I am using Xfce4) and selecting Scale anything greater than 1.

Corrupted mouse pointer

Here is the output of

xrandr -q

Re: Glitched Cursor

This is already in discussion on the nouveau driver mailing list: https://lists.x.org/archives/nouveau/20 … 37983.html

What driver are you using?

Re: Glitched Cursor

Are you the OP (ie. Gio200023 == anarchuser)?

GeForce GT 720

Please post your xorg log.

For esp. nvidia you could try

Option "SWCursor" "True"
Option "HWCursor" "False"

not sure whether nouveau or modesetting driver support this.

@Uwe, not sure about the nouveau code, but the culprit patch suggests NV50 relevance while his is an NVE0
Also suggests GK104, which isn't the specific chip here, but is indeed NVE0, so the nv50 branch covers those as well.

Re: Glitched Cursor

Sorry, I forgot to mention, using nouveau.

I've just tried Steam and it seems to be working fine, so I'm not sure I have the same problem as the thread starter.

Anyway, I will try to revert the troublesome commit. Thanks for the link.

Re: Glitched Cursor

Ok, to be more specific: I assume you mean the nouveau kernel module. But what X driver are you using? Please provide the output of

Re: Glitched Cursor

As you can see from "name:modesetting" you are using the modesetting ddx (X driver) that currently has issues. You might want to try to install "xf86-video-nouveau" and create/change a file under

/etx/X11/xorg.conf.d

with content

Section "Device"
  Identifier "Open source Nvidia"
  Driver "nouveau"
EndSection

to use the nouveau ddx.

Re: Glitched Cursor

The nouveau ddx solves the mouse pointer issue, as did setting software cursor to "True" with modesetting. Sorry, "modesetting" was not very clear to me, so I will be back to reading the docs.

I hope this solves Gio200023's problem as well.

Re: Glitched Cursor

It solved my problem too!
I can see now a normal cursor. but the font on Steam by Valve is still glitched.
Thank you very much, if I find a solution for steam I will post it here.

Re: Glitched Cursor

Since steam will probably mean that you're interested in game performance… what abotu https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NVIDIA ?

Re: Glitched Cursor

I needed Steam just to play a simple game with a friend, but thanks!
Anyway I solved the font problem with

paru areal

Hope this can help someone else.
