[SOLVED] Monitor comes on for no reason

I have by computer set to go into a power saving mode after so long which doesn't really turn the monitor off, but instead puts it into a power saving mode. To get it back to a working state, all that needs to be done is barely move the mouse or simply press a button on the keyboard. However, recently the monitor has been waking up several times during the day as if someone had moved the mouse or pressed a button. Are there any logs I can check to see why it would wake itself out of this power save mode? Just to clarify, it's not hibernate or sleep mode, just the very basic power save mode.

Cat?

No, it didn't "fix" anything. It just shifted the brokeness one space to the right. - jasonwryan

Re: [SOLVED] Monitor comes on for no reason

Any input event will break dpms, this isn't logged.
My money is (if there's no pet ;-) on the mouse generating spurious events (eg. because the optical sensor cannot decide on a position) - for a simple test just remove it and see whether the output still wakes up.

The dpms can also be broken programmatically, but that doesn't "just happen".

It hasn't been doing it today that I have noticed. Maybe it was a bad connection with the USB mouse. Unplugged and plugged the mouse back in seems to have fixed the issue. Hopefully for good. Anyway now I have an excuse to buy a new mouse pad!
