Dell XPS 9360 with QCA6174, 5GHz Connection drops after few minutes

I have a Dell XPS 9360 with Qualcomm Atheros QCA6174 802.11ac Wireless Network Adapter.

It have a archlinux installation dual booted with Windows

$❯ uname -a
Linux dark-space 5.4.75-1-lts #1 SMP Thu, 05 Nov 2020 12:39:20 +0000 x86_64 GNU/Linux
$❯ lspci -k
...

Subsystem: Bigfoot Networks, Inc. Device 1535
        Kernel driver in use: ath10k_pci
        Kernel modules: ath10k_pci
...

The problem is I am able to connect to my 5Ghz connection but after few minutes it freezes up with no traffic.

$❯ iw dev wlp58s0 link

        signal: -48 dBm

I am able to connect to my 2.4Ghz connection properly but not 5Ghz one.

$❯ iw dev wlp58s0 link
Connected to 5c:f9:fd:84:2b:69 (on wlp58s0)

$❯ nmcli general

But the same 5Ghz connection works properly in my windows.

I have also updated my firmware to latest version according to  https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/De … )#Wireless

But the issue is still not resolved.

Re: Dell XPS 9360 with QCA6174, 5GHz Connection drops after few minutes

Have you tried the latest kernel rather than LTS as well? The 5.4 base is close to a year old by now.

Also, general sanity check, you don't have multiple services racing for and breaking the NIC?

find /etc/systemd -type l -exec test -f {} \; -print | awk -F'/' '{ printf ("%-40s | %s\n", $(NF-0), $(NF-1)) }' | sort -f

Re: Dell XPS 9360 with QCA6174, 5GHz Connection drops after few minutes

Looks ok, seeing as it seems to fail during the scanning phase, one random suggestion I have is to disable NetworkManager's MAC randomisation: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ne … domization

Re: Dell XPS 9360 with QCA6174, 5GHz Connection drops after few minutes

I tried disabling NetworkManager's MAC randomisation but it still does not work.

I dont have any xinitrc so I don't think it is the issue

I tried to follow the steps given there and replaced my board.bin file. But the wifi still keeps restarting( same kernel output as above)

Oh, I found that windows still had the fast boot on (I might have forgotten to disable it). I disabled both fast boot and hibernate.
Still no improvement in the connection.

You're lucky to have a 9360 as you have a 15$ solution to all wifi and bluetooth problems. I have a 9370 with soldered QCA6174 and doomed for life due to killer wifi issues.

I have the same chipset (though on a Gigabyte Z170X-GamingG1 desktop MB), and no issues on my networks (... since 4.19 or so, prior to that, quite a shit show), but alas am also  a bit of a loss for the predicament in this thread.

Try passing "ath10k_core.cryptmode=1" to the kernel.

Re: Dell XPS 9360 with QCA6174, 5GHz Connection drops after few minutes

if i pass cryptmode=1 in /etc/modprobe.d/ath10k_core.conf

$❯ cat /etc/modprobe.d/ath10k_core.conf
options ath10k_core cryptmode=1
# options ath10k_core skip_otp=y

wifi starts but is not able to connect to any network

Re: Dell XPS 9360 with QCA6174, 5GHz Connection drops after few minutes

I am not on archlinux, but the problem is independent of the distribution: I have the same issue on a fedora on a Dell XPS 13.

See: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1846802

A piece of information: as reported here, 2.4GHz networks are running fine. I found out also that 5GHz networks are also working if the bandwidth of the hotspot is 20MHz or 40MHz. For me, the bug only happens when the bandwidth is set to 80MHz. Right now, my network works perfectly with a bandwidth of 40MHz:

% iw wlp2s0 link
Connected to 00:cb:51:ce:bb:44 (on wlp2s0)
        SSID: Goya
        freq: 5520
        RX: 356984314 bytes (568088 packets)
        TX: 258883856 bytes (398693 packets)
        signal: -74 dBm
        rx bitrate: 180.0 MBit/s VHT-MCS 4 40MHz short GI VHT-NSS 2
        tx bitrate: 162.0 MBit/s VHT-MCS 4 40MHz VHT-NSS 2

        bss flags:      short-preamble short-slot-time
        dtim period:    1
        beacon int:     78

I am wondering, for all of you seeing this bug: what is the bandwidth of your hotspot ?
