[GTX 2070 | i7 8700k] Poor OpenGL performance and glxgears performance

Hello, I have an unusual issue. My OpenGL performance is quite bad in linux.Yet in windows, I have normal to above average benchmark results on 3dmark, and for the most part it runs completely fine, but in Linux my performance is a bit sluggish.

My average FPS in glxgears is 2800-3900, usually sits around 3000~
I should be getting about 30k or higher, from what I understand.

18738 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3747.183 FPS
14649 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2929.692 FPS
14247 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2849.354 FPS

Some notes

I have two displays, one 2560x1440 and one 1920x1080, the bad performance happens even with one display enabled, and both displays have the same performance problems if they are enabled on their own without the other monitor hooked up.
In X by itself I got 60k fps in glxgears
I'm currently in plasma/kde, I had the same issue in gnome 3
I recently installed arch, I had the same issue in ubuntu
I recently installed my 2070 GTX, I had the same issue with my old GPU (980 TI)
As mentioned before, I have normal to above average performance with my hardware in games on windows.
I have ran other opengl benchmarks, compared to peers I speak to also running arch but with worse hardware, I'm scoring really low.
My pacman packages are all up to date

Any ideas would be welcome

Mandatory glxgears is not a benchmark, use an actual benchmark disclaimer.

Also FWIW in general if you have the compositor active during these that might skew the results, is this with or without the KWin compositor enabled?

Most relevant bit:

In X by itself I got 60.000 fps in glxgears
I'm currently in plasma/kde, I had the same issue in gnome 3

Suspend the compositor and

__GL_SYNC_TO_VBLANK=0 glxgears

Also ensure that this isn't CPU limited (because baloo/tracker hog it or so) - at least for glxgears the cpu is (given a decent GPU) usually the limiting factor.

Thanks for the replies, I was led to believe glxgears was a good benchmark, I also did another mesa demo to bench and that had poor results, but upon doing the unigine benchmarks, my scores seem good.

what did you do to fix your issue? im still getting back opengl performance with my 2070 as well

It's unlikely you have the same issue after 3 years, please open your own thread and include glxinfo and xorg.log outputs.
