hello all, and happy monday,
I ran into an issue the other day while recording a podcast.
I use jack2 and ardour to record audio, and while I was hopping on the podcast, they also wanted video, however, I found out that while jack2 is running, my webcam doesn't work in zoom. The light just flashes twice and turns off.
my webcam has a built in mic, which I don't use, however Is jack2 also taking control of my camera since it sees a mic on it?
thanx
-nixit
SOLUTION: ran a second USB cable to where I needed it for the camera

Have you got Catia installed? Perhaps you can check Catia to see if Jack is connecting to your webcam mic.

thx
I use qjackctl, and I have that set to use my dedicated mic, though my webcam is listed as a option for mic. I will check out catia to see what it reports.

Perhaps you can consider using Cadence instead of qjackctl since it ties in more naturally with Catia.

@d_fajardo,
I installed catia, and it looks like the same patchbay setup that I have in qjackctl...
pulse audio jacksink -> system
pulse audio jacksink -> zita-j2a (zita jack to alsa bridge)
system (capture 1 & 2) -> pulseaudio jack source (front L & R)
within qjackctl under output and input hardware devices, I do see an entry for my webcame, even though within pavcontrol I have the audio to disabled for my webcam.
is there a way to tell jack2 to not grab a particular device?

I've never used qjackctl but in Cantia it's as simple as manually plugging in or out the connections.
Are you able to see your webcam in Catia?

I did not see any mention of the webcam in catia, only the same connection names as what's in qjackctl. It appears that I don't have anything through jack connected to the webcam, and it looks like jack has control of it.

Have you switched from PulseAudio to PipeWire yet? That seems to solve all kinds of problems with JACK, or at least it did for me...

If it's not connected to jack, then the mic shouldn't interfere. Perhaps the problem is not with jack.

appreciate your response...
the problem only exists when jack is running. It may not have a connection in jack, jack *could* still be grabbing it.
is there a way to tell jack not to grab certain devices when it starts up?
