USB interface connected to soundcard fails irregularly

A search showed this unanswered topic, my issue is almost identical.
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=132590

The issue is that playback will stop, and no output from USB DAC.

I have an Intel NUC NUC6CAYH as an mpd server, output via alsa through an M2Tech HiFace 2 USB -> coaxial spdif converter. The system plays fine and will play several (sometimes many) songs, and issue only happens at the end of a song (never mid-song). I'm connecting to a USB3 port.
Journal gives a message

kernel: usb 1-4: 1:2: usb_set_interface failed (-71)

or

kernel: usb 1-4: 1:2: usb_set_interface failed (-110)

I can still see the device once it fails

$ usb-devices

D: Ver= 2.00 Cls=ef(misc ) Sub=02 Prot=01 MxPS=64 #Cfgs= 2
P: Vendor=249c ProdID=930b Rev=06.70
S: Manufacturer=M2Tech

C: #Ifs= 3 Cfg#= 1 Atr=80 MxPwr=0mA
I: If#=0x0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 0 Cls=01(audio) Sub=01 Prot=20 Driver=snd-usb-audio
I: If#=0x1 Alt= 0 #EPs= 0 Cls=01(audio) Sub=02 Prot=20 Driver=snd-usb-audio
I: If#=0x2 Alt= 0 #EPs= 0 Cls=fe(app. ) Sub=01 Prot=01 Driver=(none)

Disconnecting the M2Tech and reconnecting does not fix the issue. I was able to fix it by restarting mpd.service, but in the past this hasn't always worked.

Can I request some help in keeping the usb DAC stable and usable?

Re: USB interface connected to soundcard fails irregularly

Shortly afterwards I get an error message in the journal:

kernel: xhci_hcd 0000:00:15.0: ERROR Transfer event TRB DMA ptr not part of current TD ep_index 1 comp_code 1
