Hello,
Since a few days my mouse cursor has been acting up. It only affects the external montor, laptop screen displays it fine.
It is the same problem as described in this post.
In post #7 in that thread it seems the solution was to use the nouveau drivers. They are already loaded on my machine. At least as far as I can tell.
lspci -k | grep -A 2 -E "(VGA|3D)"
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 4th Gen Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 06)
DeviceName: Onboard IGD
Subsystem: Dell Device 05cc
--
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GK106GLM [Quadro K2100M] (rev a1)
Subsystem: Dell Device 15cc
Kernel driver in use: nouveauI tried installing the nvidia driver, but then the external monitor did not work at all.
I would be grateful for any help I can get.
Thanks
Edit:
I did try what was suggested in post #7:
[martin@precision ~]$ pacman -Ss nouveau
extra/xf86-video-nouveau 1.0.17-1 (xorg-drivers) [installerat]

Please post your xorg log.
Notice that you've a dual GPU system, it's not clear whether you're running on the nvidia chip at all, resp. which chip is being abused as crtc only.
If you want to make the external output work w/ the nvidia blob, first ensure to read up https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NVIDIA_Optimus and if you've remaining issues, start by posting your xorg log, system journal and "xrandr --listproviders" output w/ the nvidia driver supposingly in use.

I got it working. When I run the LTS kernel the cursor renders fine.

Because of your 2 recent (wiped) posts: are you using X11 or wayland as display server?

The it's the OP of the thread you posted in #3 - changes to your X11 config won't help, the Xorg log is dated
[ 3971.596] (==) Log file: "/var/log/Xorg.0.log", Time: Sat Nov 14 15:29:24 2020
The nvidia blob won'tr work w/ wayland, so you're probably launching a wayland session on the intel chip and the nvidia GPU becomes inaccessible.
You'll have to use an X11 session in order to use the nvidia blob.
The system journal requires you to run journalctl as root or be member in one of some special groups (ie. try "sudo journalctl | curl -F 'f:1=<-' ix.io", but that's moot for the moment)

Yes, I saw that the output of journalctl was wrong so I updated it in the post above, sorry.
Thank you for your help. I will consult the wiki about running X11.
I did get the cursor issue to work with the LTS kernel, so I'll mark this thread as solved.
