Unable to access Spyder all of a sudden

I have "spyder 4.2.4-1" installed, and I had been using it until recently, when something happened and Spyder stopped working.

$ spyder
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/lib/python3.9/site-packages/qtpy/__init__.py", line 204, in <module>
    from PySide import __version__ as PYSIDE_VERSION # analysis:ignore
ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'PySide'

During handling of the above exception, another exception occurred:

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/spyder", line 3, in <module>
    start.main()
  File "/usr/lib/python3.9/site-packages/spyder/app/start.py", line 209, in main
    from spyder.app import mainwindow
  File "/usr/lib/python3.9/site-packages/spyder/app/mainwindow.py", line 45, in <module>
    requirements.check_qt()
  File "/usr/lib/python3.9/site-packages/spyder/requirements.py", line 41, in check_qt
    import qtpy
  File "/usr/lib/python3.9/site-packages/qtpy/__init__.py", line 210, in <module>
    raise PythonQtError('No Qt bindings could be found')
qtpy.PythonQtError: No Qt bindings could be found

I have already looked at a similar thread (https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=260320) but I haven't been able to fix this. I had loaned my computer to a colleague who might have accidentally run pip, which is indeed a possible cause. But I'd appreciate any help that would let me debug this. Thanks!

Honestly I posted something like this earlier. I can run spider just fine but pygame doesnt work. I'm seriously wondering if its the qtconsole dependency every time I boot I get a warning about qtconsole not being updated. it's only 5.0.1 in the aur its asking for 5.0.3 because it may break dependencies. I could be wrong. Would you let me know if you find out?

I know there is an easier way to do this but if it isn't pip it wouldnt help. I suggest typing / in a browser and tyaking a cursery glance at system changes.

I'm not sure I follow your suggestion. Could you perhaps rephrase?
I have not found a solution yet, but I will be sure to post one if I do.

By the way, I tried to install Spyder on a clean install of Arch Linux on another system, and I am able to get it to work (of course). I salvaged the dependencies I needed to install to get spyder to work.

pacman -S python-atomicwrites python-chardet python-cloudpickle python-diff-match-patch python-intervaltree ipython python-jedi python-jsonschema python-keyring jupyter-nbconvert python-numpydoc python-parso python-pexpect python-pickleshare python-psutil python-pygments python-pylint python-pyqt5 python-pyqtwebengine qt5-webkit python-language-server python-pyls-black python-pyls-spyder python-xdg python-pyzmq python-qdarkstyle python-qtawesome python-qtconsole python-qtpy python-setuptools python-sphinx python-spyder-kernels python-textdistance python-three-merge python-watchdog

Needless to say, executing this command on the computer where Spyder is failing to execute, also did not help.
So whatever pip did is very sinister indeed!

Re: Unable to access Spyder all of a sudden

If your colleague ran pip, then if they did so as a user and not root it should be easy to clean up -  does...

pip list --user

return anything as the same user?
If so, you could uninstall packages as the user (not root), with...

pip uninstall {package}

or if there are a lot of packages, or you want to clean everything out...

rm -rf ~/.local/bin ~/.local/lib

which is where pip installs to as a user (it's been like this for a while when newer versions of pip defaulted to using "--user").
Creating a new user and testing what works might help you out here?

If things weren't installed as a user but as root, you will have to clear out changes to the system directories which may take you some time, and also probably use things like...

pacman -Qkk {packagename}

Cheers
Paul.
