Re: pipewire upgrade breaks audio, pipewire-media-session can't start

Had the same problem. Solved it by replacing the four old config files (alsa-monitor.conf, media-session.conf, v4l2-monitor.conf, bluez-monitor.conf) in "/etc/pipewire/media-session.d/" with the .pacnew versions (assuming you have them there) then restarting the media-session service with: "systemctl --user restart pipewire-media-session"

Thanks, it works.

I fought with that half a day.

You should always listen to what pacman says every time you run an upgrade and merge any .pacnew files as soon as possible. It's a standard part of maintaining a working system...

No, it didn't "fix" anything. It just shifted the brokeness one space to the right. - jasonwryan

Re: pipewire upgrade breaks audio, pipewire-media-session can't start

Hey, this happens again to me with the last PipeWire update (1:0.3.24-1), replacing media-session.conf with media-session.conf.pacnew solve the problem.

Re: pipewire upgrade breaks audio, pipewire-media-session can't start

Thanks all for posting. Had the same issue for two of the config files. @slithery I don't think I have seen any mention of pacnew files being created. Sadly can not look back to the output. Also I am curious if yay displays that. I suspect it would, but I am not sure.

Yes, you can!

Re: pipewire upgrade breaks audio, pipewire-media-session can't start

[tag@jhackler-work ~]$ systemctl --user restart pipewire-media-session
Failed to connect to bus: $DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS and $XDG_RUNTIME_DIR not defined (consider using --machine=<user>@.host --user to connect to bus of other user)
[tag@jhackler-work ~]$
I dont know what this means but pipewire wont work after system update followed directions here

Re: pipewire upgrade breaks audio, pipewire-media-session can't start

never mind I am an idiot just replacing files worked ( I assumed it wasn't working or was gonna die on restart since that command was giving that error still after replacing files. Guess on wayland it just worked after switching) no need too run that command after wards the command doesn't work though

Great! Thanks!

I love archlinux: the last STABLE kernel release + the last STABLE DE release + the last STABLE apps releases. The upstream developers decide what is STABLE.

I only get services, seccomp, storage, dnscrypt and mirrorlist for the whole year 2021. Nothing about Pipewire

Though

```sh
# mmv "/etc/pipewire/media-session.d/*.conf" "/etc/pipewire/media-session.d/#1.conf.old"
# mmv "/etc/pipewire/media-session.d/*.pacnew" "/etc/pipewire/media-session.d/#1"
$ systemctl --user start pipewire-media-session
```

Make it work

Thank you so much. This also solve the problem with obs-studio on wayland and gnome 40
