UT2004 changes sample rate, sound all garbled

When I start ut2004 under Arch (with the newest kernel installed) UT changes the samplerate on my Delta1010LT to 8khz and the sound is all garbled. Resetting the sample rate to 44.1khz or anything like that in alsamixer does not work....
What gives?

You should check the alsa site for your driver and see if anyone is using a specific asound.conf file. I had an issue with a VIA sound chip once that was fixed by setting a fixed sample rate in asound.conf.

Re: UT2004 changes sample rate, sound all garbled

That is not quite an option, as I use my PC for home recording, and there will be a sample rate change every now and then, when using Ardour together with JACK. Mastering material is mostly coming in at higher bitrates than 44.1khz, so first opening them up at the original bitrate requires me to switch the bitrate.
On the laptop, sound work flawlessly, but it's a different card and kernel there...

I could also not find out how you set a fixed bitrate, I just found out how you do all sorts of other things, like changing bitrates within alsa software and such...

[edit]
I think it is because of the dmix stuff that has found its way into the newer alsa versions.

Does UT2k4 have OSS support? If so, you could try running it with aoss /path/to/ut2k4 and see if sound works  with OSS emulation. It may be worth a try since it's not very hard to do.

It does actually work with aoss. Just played the game for two hours straight big_smile
Haven't been able to play a game that long for about two years now. I kinda enjoy it....

UT2004 uses openal, so change the sampling rate in openal.
