Good afternoon friends. I have a problem and I need help to solve it. On my Arch Linux, I'm not sure why (an update?) A new "desktop" appeared. In the tree of my "Home" there is now this new desktop and the old desktop (desktop, in Portuguese). Well, now when Arch initializes, only the 2 or 3 icons of this new desktop appear on the desktop. If I click on any program that is still on the taskbar, the system understands that it is a newly installed program. However, if I open my file manager and open an old desktop (desktop) everything is there, folders that were on the desktop, icons, everything. How do I restore startup with the desktop that until yesterday was the only one I had?
*
In short, I can only access my old desktop (old until yesterday) by accessing it through the file manager, inside the "desktop" folder. The "new desktop that came up shows an empty area, as if it had just installed Arch Linux.
I appreciate the help I get

What desktop environment (gnome, kde,.…) do you use and what's the output of
localectl
locale
locale -a?

The old directory is the localized one and a non-localized version showed up?
Did you check Cinnamon's language settings (if it's anything like gnome it'll likely ignore the system locale and gnome recently seems to have a bug where it just adds english as a second locale…)

Thanks for helping me. Windows fast boot is not activated. I even use a dual boot with Windows. But I had this same problem with dual boot with Slackware. What should I do?

Errr… that's my signature ;-)
It's not related to the topic at hand.

I installed it months ago, normally, all in pt_BR. As far as I know Cinnamon is configured like this. Yesterday I thought it was strange because when I started the Thunderbir it opened as if it were the first time I was using it, but I was still able to start the old desktop (visually speaking, on the desktop, with icons, icons on the taskbar), only today, when starting Arch, did it open with an "empty desktop", with nothing as it normally is on the native desktop in the installation. Through the file manager, Nemos, I can access the "Desktop" (desktop in Portuguese), everything is there and everything works, but Arch initializes directed to this new desktop.

Ahahahahahh .... ok
i'm sorry

In locale.gen only pt_BR is set. I always comment (#) en_US when I install. The new "desktop" appeared, but the entire system remains in Portuguese. Only the workspace is gone and the applications behave as if they have just been installed.

That would suggest a different $HOME?
echo $HOME
ls /home
ls -l $HOME # we're only interested in the lines for the old and new "Desktop"Offline
$ echo $HOME
/home/luckyarchlinux
* The home is the same "luckyarchlinux"

Friend. I am immensely grateful for the generosity and patience in helping me. I think it will be simpler, after all, to re-install Arch and try to use KDE or XFCE, as this is the second time I have the same problem in 8 months, using Cinnamon. Thank you very much.

Again: Check the cinnamon language settings.
To downforce this behavior, you could probably just create a symlink Desktop -> 'Área de trabalho' (so you've both, but they're the same)
Not sure how this could reset application configs ("applications behave as if they have just been installed").

Yes, friend Seth. I came back to give you feedback (your generosity and dedicated attention to me). I put Arch with Cinnamon (I really like Cinnamon) and in this installation I was careful to check all the "locale / pt_BR", one by one. I will be attentive to any details in the updates. I don't rest until I can understand why a problem like this (it doesn't seem to me to be a "bug", I have the intuition that some detail that may have escaped me). Again, thank you so much Seth ![]()
