i3-gaps has GPU artifacts

i3-gaps sometimes has gpu artifacts on the gaps

i've been having some problems with GPU artifacts with Arch Linux
GPU is AMD ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3200

i3-gaps or the compositor (picom?)?
If compositor: xrender or opengl backend or either?

Please post your xorg log for driver details, notably between xf86-video-ati and modesetting.
