Local APIC disabled by BIOS

Local APIC disabled by BIOS -- you can enable it with "lapic"

This comes from dmesg running 2.6.18-ck. What are the possible problems with forcing the local APIC to be on via "lapic"? Should it be turned on anyway?

Re: Local APIC disabled by BIOS

It's probably that your system doesn't have a local apic.
The local apic should be either on the CPU or on the north-bridge (I'm not 100% sure) so if you don't have it, you'll get that message.

Re: Local APIC disabled by BIOS

I booted with "lapic" and dmesg reports the local apic reenabled. I haven't noticed a difference.

Local APIC disabled by BIOS -- reenabling.
Found and enabled local APIC!
mapped APIC to ffffd000 (fee00000)
