pdf thumbnails missing in Caja

Hello,
I don't know how, but it's been a week or so since I lost all ability to see pdf thumbnails in Caja. I can see all other types of files as thumbnails, but not pdfs. All attempts to reload a folder with pdfs results in more files been added to /thumbnails/fail/mate-thumbnail-factory.

Any help would be welcome.

* After instaling Thunar, I can see the thumbnails in Thunar and those folders opened in Thunar later show the pdf thumbnails in Caja. In case this helps anyone to find the cause of the problem...
