KDE/X11: DisplayPort monitor disconnects when turned off

I have recently purchased a new monitor, which unlike my previous two, which are connected via DisplayPort -> DVI , has a direct DisplayPort output, through which I have it connected to my machine.

I turn them off, when I don't use the computer, but when I do so with the new monitor, it is reported as disconnected through xrandr.
Due to this, KDE will mess up all window placement in a way that is not properly recovered when the monitor is turned back on.
In addition to that, for some reason or another, the disconnect will suspend the desktop compositing under KDE.

I don't know whether this is a normal behaviour for DisplayPort connected monitors, or a quirk coming from my particular model, and was unable to find information about this.
I am hoping to get some insight into this, and perhaps a solution to prevent the disconnect from happening, or at least prevent KDE or X11 from changing the display geometry.
