truecrypt container (cryptsetup) having issues uninstalling package

Hey guys.

Recently found an old truecrypt container on a backup hard drive and i figured I'd try to open it. I read the wiki regarding the subject and it suggested jsut using cryptsetup instead of the outdated truecrypt (deprecated).

No problem. Installed it, opened the container, strolled down memory lane all is well.

Except now I cannot uninstall cryptsetup. it has made itself a dependency of systemd, volume_key and libcryptsetup.so=12-64 is a dependency of systemd

fml. what do I do now?

You don't do anything. When you "installed" it, all you did was reinstall a package you already had.

I had to read it thrice and I am still not understanding, how the Truecrypt container fits the picture. So for now, until clarification appears, I assume it’s a question about removing cryptsetup.

However, that raises anther question: how comes you didn’t have cryptsetup installed before? It is a dependency of systemd, which is a part of the base group. It must have been installed.

The answer to your question is… you do not uinstall it.

Sure enough i scrolled up to where i "installed" cryptsetup and it just reinstalled like you said.

All i was doing was mounting an old encrypted container file so i could see what i was storing inside. Thanks for the help guys. Long time Linux user but obviously next to zero experience with encryption. In fact this container is the only thing I've ever encrypted. I should read more about this and encrypt my laptops drive probably...
