Hi everyone,
I was running arch on xps 9310 i7-1165G7 with 32GB. I use gnome-shell under wayland, and every now and then, display lags for a fraction of a sec, sometimes even 2 or 3 seconds. Ir runs super fast except for that part. When it happens, the whole UI freezes (mouse not responding, keystrokes appear with delay, windows stop refrshing UI, etc). I tried xorg and also reverted gnome-shell to 3.38, but everything's the same.
I tried s-tui to see if I could spot any sign of temperature, fan or clock sudden peak but can't see any pattern. CPU usage is low, temperature is low, memory is low. It's supposed to be super super smooth but it isn't. I looked into dmesg and journalctl and there isn't a single line of log when this problem happens.
I tried same arch installation/configuration on a laptop with i5 11th gen and 16gb of ram and run completely smooth, not a problem.
I then replaced arch with ubuntu in the XPS to compare, and with ubuntu there's not even a single glitch, it works completely flawlessly.
I'm totally disoriented. Don't know what to do excepto to stick with Ubuntu until after a couple of months try again and see if something changed?
Any help will be really appreciated.
Ale

I'm getting a similar issue. Just started this morning. My journalctl is filled with gdm-x-session messages about modesetting.

Well this seems very interesting, my system is getting a hibernate signal every few seconds...

Found my fix. Uninstall nvidia graphics driver.

THe segment you posted in #2 doesn't suggest the nvidia driver was in use at all.
This may be rather conincidental and the problem to re-emerge…

I feel totally identified with your stability problems migralito. I also have an XPS 9310. I have been doing many tests with the kernel and I think that by downgrading kernel to 5.8 the system goes much better. That's the kernel that ubuntu groovy uses.

Thank you!!!
It was totally that! downgraded linux and linux-headers to 5.8.14. I had to edit mkinitcpio.conf to use lz4 instead of zstd otherwise it would not load initramfs.
