Scratchy audio from audio interface; "fixed" by changing output device

I have a scarlett focusrite solo audio interface along with a set of headphones I like to use. Though when I first plug it in the audio quality tends to be extremely "scratchy" and "crackly" if that makes sense.

The issue is temporarily resolved by going into "Sounds", I'm using gnome by the way, and toggling the output device to something else and then back to the scarlett, then it becomes very clear. The exemption is when using communication programs like Discord anytime I join a new voice channel the problems comes back and requires me to toggle the output device again. Something similar happens with teams as well.

Any ideas how I can approach this? I am quite new in audio w/ linux.
