Hi, i have a Thinkpad E590, now i'm using an Arch installation as my main OS, the thing is, i noticed that for quite a while, my wifi router will stop giving internet access through wifi at 24:00 -1:00. I thought it was a fault of the router and simply rebooted it. Then i realized that that timeframe was not a coincidence, it was when i shutdown my laptop.
So yeah, shutting down the laptop causes the router to lost its mind.
The thing is, this didn't happend before, when i was using Windows 10, and i confirmed it also happened with other linux distros such as Pop!_OS.
My router is a D-Link model DIR-842, and it is configured like a switch rather than a router. What i mean is that the router has 4 LAN gigabit ports and a WAN gigabit port, at first, i had it connected to my main router (the one my ISP provided me) trhough the WAN port, wich caused the IPs to be 192.168.0.X, which i didn't want as i have a NAS with movies and wanted my smart TV to be able to discover the NAS and connect to it. (this tv can only connect through wifi as i don't have an ethernet connection there)
So then i learned that my D-Link router was capable of act kind of like a ethernet switch and a AP, if i connected it through a LAN port to the main router instead of using the WAN port, now the IPs where the same group as the main router (192.168.1.X), which makes sense as now it's in the same LAN. The TV now detects the NAS and it can play the movies, yay.
What now i don't understand is why my laptop is causing this. This only happens when i'm connected through ethernet, in my case i'm using the Thinkpad USB-C dock (the first gen one).
Now that i think about it, i didn't try it with the laptop's built in ethernet port, maybe is the dock what is causing the issue . idk
Hopefully someone can help me.
Ah, by the way, i'm using KDE Plasma, in case this helps, the kernel is the latest as of today (but i don't really think this is relevant as pop!_OS uses a different DE and an older kernel)
EDIT: now that i'm thinking about it... does having both wifi and ethernet connections active have anything to do with this?
If i recall correctly, in windows, when you are connected through wifi and connect to ethernet, it will switch to ethernet an (i'm not sure) disconnect from the wifi.
I'll try to shutdown the wifi card and shutdown the pc with only the ethernet connection active and see what happens.
EDIT2: Okay, it seems that that was the issue. I'll search how to disable wifi when ethernet is connected automatically and if everything turns out fine i'll close this as solved.
EDIT3: Hell yes, i found that if using networkmanager, you can use a script that does just what i wanted: disable wifi when ethernet is plugged in, and re-enable it when ethernet is not plugged. The script in question hast to be put inside /etc/NetworkManager/dispatcher.d.
