Error installing Aruba Virtual Intranet Access client from deb

My institution changed their VPN access and now require the Aruba Virtual Intranet Access client which is only available as rpm or deb packages. I downloaded the deb package and converted it to a tar.gz with

archalien via-4.1.0-2012076.Ubuntu16.04_amd64.deb

. Trying to install it with

pacman -U via-4.1.0_2012076.ubuntu16.04-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz

results in an error

I'm guessing you tried https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/archalien-git ?

Upstream hasn't updated in almost 4 years and there were several changes in the filesystem setup since then.

I suggest you try https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/debtap instead .
