[Solved] External SSD not recognized

I've taken an SSD from my old laptop and put it into an external chassis, but when I plug it into the usb of my new laptop, it isn't recognized. I tried it on another laptop running Debian, and it got recognized instantly. fdisk -l, lsblk and lsusb don't recognize it, but dmesg gives

dmesg | tail -n 20

Re: [Solved] External SSD not recognized

Have you tried using other ports? Also do the ports work for other devices like thumb drives? If they do, try booting up the arch live installation and see if that can identify your SSD.

Re: [Solved] External SSD not recognized

I was sure I had, but when I did now, it worked immediately and consistently. Well, at least it works. Any idea what could be the reason?
