Cannot mount sdb1 to /mnt

This is my second attempt at this. I want to install to sdb1. I did mkfs.ext4 /dev/sdb1 and it gives dev /sdb1 contains a ISO 9660 file system labelled Arch 202104. Proceed anyway? (The Arch ISO image is a remnant of yesterdays failed attempt). I type y and get dev /sdb1 is mounted. Will not make a filesystem here! If I try to proceed with mount sdb1 /mnt, I get Warning, source write-protected, mounted read-only. Can anyone please point me in the right direction or explain what I'm doing wrong, thanks.

Re: Cannot mount sdb1 to /mnt

Are you absolutely certain sdb1 is your actual disk to install on and not the USB you are trying to do the installation from? What's your output of

lsblk -f

Re: Cannot mount sdb1 to /mnt

So yes, sdb is your USB flash drive. That's not where you want to install.
