Seems like I could need someone to hold my hand and guide me through the process. I just recently switched to Plasma full time after deciding that Gnome 40 isn't for me. Now I am facing font smoothing / anti-aliasing issues in the few GTK applications which I still rely upon.
I have been trying to work my way through the Wiki which essentially got me to this topic. There, I clicked on the See Font configuration#LCD filter link and I am completely lost.
Where / what file do I have to add those information to? Where do I even start?

You need to back up a bit, the location and base format of the fontconfig file is mentioned in https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Font_c … figuration
In between that skeleton you can add the LCD filter snippet.

Thanks, V1del! I realized my stupidity a little after I posted the above. I guess I am just getting old.
Meanwhile, I also found that it seems to be enough to slightly increase the font size. It was at 10 by default. 11 made the font nice and sharp but a hint too large for me, so, I set it to 10.5 and that's a more than acceptable middle ground.
