I have a box which I am building out a flash storage array for using 8 x Samsung 970 evo plus 2TB drive. This array sits behind a Highpoint 7140 SSD controller is JBOD mode. That all seemed to work fine at first, but after writing a 500GB postgresql db on zfs to the zraid2, I started seeing the problem described here:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Solid_ … ST_support
`nvme nvme0: failed to set APST feature (-19)`
At which point each drive goes offline, but tem PCI controller (Highpoint 7140) stays visible and operational.
I tried the workaround, but it seems to reoccur. I tried wiping the drives, and then they work again until roughly the same utilization. They are operating at 40° C, so temperature doesn't seem to be an issue. I also noticed they are getting stuck between the D0 and D3 power state.
After a hard reboot, the drives come back and stay up for 20 minutes to a few hours until this power state transition reoccurs.
I was wondering if folks have any other ideas on working around this 4 year old ASPT issue. If not I may sell those drives and get ones without this issue as it seems specific to the Samsung 9xx series.
