Touchpad does not work on some restarts

On about 1 out of every 8 starts, my touchpad does not work. "xinput list" shows that no touchpad is detected, and the same is true when looking at the "/proc/bus/input/devices" file. The Xorg log also does not have anything related to the touchpad device, errors or otherwise. Its as if the touchpad is disconnected completely. The other 7 starts, everything works flawlessly, and the touchpad shows up in all locations mentioned above.

Running Cinnamon/Xorg. Issue occurs within display managers, so desktop environment is likely not the issue. Tried multiple display managers, and issue persists. Upgraded kernel to latest, as well as doing several full system updates. Tried both libinput and synaptics drivers. Both are loaded correctly and function the same. Laptop is a Motile M142. I've had BIOS issues in the past on this laptop, but not since flashing an updated version. Had no issues with touchpad on Windows.

I'm out of ideas...
