Mic has static noise after last night's update

So I updated my system last night.

And today whenever I join a voice call I get massive static noises coming from my microphone. (I don't hear them obviously but I have tested both with discord's and guilded's feature to test your voice and people have told me of my static noises)

The noises are there no matter what port or cable I use to connect my microphone.

Also they disappeared when I connected to discord from my phone using the same microphone.

I use pipewire. Any pieces of advice on how to troubleshoot it properly?

You'd want to downgrade the entire pipewire stack rather than just pipewire-pulse but I'd assume a more low level regression from the kernel bump to be more likely

I downgraded the whole pipewire stack and the problem persisted. I still have massive static noises in my mic.

As mentioned, I consider a 5.11 -> 5.12 kernel regression more likely. Maybe try downgrading that or testing behaviour on linux-lts

FWIW there appear to be a few ALSA static fixes in 5.12.3 so the issue might be fixed on the next kernel update already.

I have the same problem, but only in discord-app (and discord canary). Not e.g. in jitsy.

Did you try other than discord?

Other linux users i know have the problem too, not using arch.
therefore i might suggest its no OS or hardware problem, but a discord problem. (sounds strange, since discord is not in your update log?!)
Ancient discord updates on linux had this problems before, so i will try their workarounds and update here.
I wonder why there arent more google entries to this topic. to me it looks like "everybody" might be affected.

For me the Problem was solved by following the work-arounds from 2016 or so. namely uncheck noice reduction and echo-cancellation. And enableling debug logging, not sure if this is nessecary.
but i think discord might have changed some things as well since beginnig of the thread without notacible update notification.
