[ 356.146065] ---[ end trace eeae13741b27c7b5 ]---I just upgraded today hoping to solve the issue (linux 5.12.3), but it stays the same, even with the lts kernel 5.10.36
I'm using an Haswell system with integrated igp plus AMD/ATI 5600xt
System works well, the messages just posted are from glxgears and are not too much; everytime i resize the window there are a bunch of messages, but that's "ok".
The problem is that some apps (parkitect is the last one i saw) cause kernel to spam the logs, there are about 10 of them repeating every second.
Last time i played it for 30 minutes, it exhausted my entire journal.
dmesg: http://sprunge.us/Iwl6Tw
journalctl --boot: http://sprunge.us/bqZspq
lspci: http://sprunge.us/70XNkn
A couple of obvious questions:
1) Anybody knows if/how i can solve the problem at the root?
2) And if not, is there a way to make it stop spamming?

Different warning, RIP and backtrace and no mention of DRI_PRIME being required to trigger this by the reporter. Why do you think it's related?
DRI_PRIME=1 glxinfoAre there any virtual machines/PCI passthroughs involved?
And really check that this isn't a wayland session by accident, because the error seems common in that context.

The comment from Mike Lothian points to a "prime.dmesg" attachment:
With that patch applied I see new WARNINGs in my dmesg
prime.dmesg

Also, the warning is in: "WARNING: [..] dma_buf_attach" in both, so they just looked "enough" similar to me to to ask if they were somehow related.

I'm totally sure i'm not on wayland and i'm noit doing any VM stuff nor passthrough any device.

3481 looks more like the same.
Extended renderer info (GLX_MESA_query_renderer):
Vendor: AMD (0x1002)
Device: AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT (NAVI10, DRM 3.40.0, 5.12.3-arch1-1, LLVM 11.1.0) (0x731f)Seems to be really just noise… you can lower the printk level in general or temporarily to mitigate the spam aspect.
Offline
Yeah, thanks, seems the best way.
However i tried to silence the messages without much success, am i doing something wrong?
I've tried the following just to test, but it just keep updating the kernel ring buffer and the journal as well in every iteration:
for i in $(seq 0 9) ; do
sudo sh -c "echo $i $i $i $i > /proc/sys/kernel/printk"
DRI_PRIME=1 glxinfo &>/dev/null
dmesg
echo press return
read
doneLast edited by kokoko3k (2021-05-16 08:31:02)

printk only limits the console, not the ringbuffer.

Understood.
Seems that systemd-journald permits some control on what is stored in the journal via MaxLevelStore.
Even if it does not seem to be able set different storing levels for different sources (kmsg), i suppose it is my best solution by now.
Thanks.
