[solved, workaround] Mic says unplugged

Workaround. Seems Macbook headphone jacks just don't play nicely with linux. I got a cheap usb adapter--all fine now.

MacBook Air 7,2, i3. All audio in/out works right except for headphone mic. Pavucontrol reports the headphone input is unplugged when it's not. Internal mic stays on/works when the headphones are plugged in.

I also have a Thinkpad t420s with a single headset jack that I use these same headphones in, which works properly (I forgot how I did that though--remember it was a problem to set up).

The Thinkpad's behavior is, when I plug in the headphones, the internal mic gets disabled (pavucontrol calls it unplugged).
If I remove the headphones, pavucontrol correctly shows the headphones are unplugged, and the internal mic goes back on.

I'm guessing I need to manually edit some config or add a new rule somewhere to replicate this, but not sure how to start.

I would also be fine to disable the internal mic entirely if that would fix it more easily.
