Cannot play Netflix in any browser [ SOLVED ... sort of ]

In a freshly installed Arch I cannot play Netflix using any of my browsers, namely: Firefox and Vivaldi.
Vivaldi complained right off the bat that something was missing and could not play multimedia.

After trying adding a few things and looking in the forums I found that there is an app (Netflix Desktop) that can play Netflix. But it only works if I'm using
that app.

I also installed ffmpeg and Vivaldi stopped complaining but does not play yet Netflix.
I, of course, installed the widevine plugin in both browsers but no joy.

I hope one of  you guys may point me in the right direction to fix this odd issue. I probably missed installing something ...

Thanks,

R.

NOTE: Firefox message error is: "WidevineCdn crashed"

 vivaldi-ffmpeg-codecs (optional) - playback of proprietary video/audio

as for firefox, i dont have the latest version yet im still on 87 but netflix works fine, a stab in the dark.... do you have pulseaudio installed:

 pulseaudio: Audio support [installed]

failing that try roll back to version 87 and try that.

check your journal for errors too.

R.

FWIW I can play netflix on FF 88.0.1;  I fought for a while with an error caused by a user-agent changer.

@Flemur

Hi, could you elaborate?
What did you change, modify, alter in order to make it work as expected?

Check output of:

about:support
about:plugins
about:crashes

in firefox for more insight into what may be happening there.

What DE are you using? What's your graphics stack? Do you have HW accel enabled? Wayland or X?

Re: Cannot play Netflix in any browser [ SOLVED ... sort of ]

@CarbonChauvinist,

Thanks for your reply.
I checked all those things and they are not the cause.
I just found the cause last night: firejail.

I use firejal with all things web facing like Thunderbird and Firefox.
I used to have a configuration in my old system which worked OK. This new system does not have it and
is causing the problem.

I will have to figure out how to write a custom firefox.profile that allows it to play nice with DRM.

Thank you all for your help.

Just turned off all the addons - I gather you've launched FF in "safe mode" or renamed ~/.mozilla, then launched FF to start afresh?  I dunno if it matters, but firefox was "installed" from the from :
https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/rel … .1.tar.bz2
rather than by pacman.

FWIW, with vivaldi I get error "M7361-1254" with vivaldi-ffmpeg-codecs installed.
