[Solved]Steam is having trouble logging in, and no downloading working

When starting steam, it gives "Could not connect to the Steam network" error, but after few "Retry Connection" later it does login.

After login, chat loads fine (don't have any active friends so don't know if actual chat works fine or not), but downloading doesn't work. There are items in queue, they move to top (currently downloading section) but move back to queue within a second.

I am using NetworkManager for networking.

Maybe your personal installation files are confused... Try starting fresh. Move the Steam directory ("mv /home/aqeel/.local/share/Steam /home/aqeel/.local/share/Steam.old") and any other directories (I think there might be a "~/.steam" directory... you can always "find ~/.??* -type d -iname '*steam*' to find any more). Then start Steam.

Does it run correctly now?

I remember trying renaming .local/share/Steam before, but didn't realize there was also .var/app/com.valvesoftware.Steam, renamed it too. Error was slightly different, something about Steam needing network connection to update, so check your connection, here's the output

Issue is obviously something related to my network.

Just a note, I am using external wifi card on my laptop. Internal one works fine but can be wonky on my connection, last time steam worked was still when I was using my internal card. I did try removing the external card and even trying ethernet but steam still didn't work.

Found the fix from Arch Wiki. Thanks to "Could't resolve host name" error from last try, searched the wiki and found the solution.

Just had to enable DNS caching

 systemctl enable nscd --now
