Focus issue when closing VLC window

This has been happening to my system for a couple weeks, possibly since the last VLC update on May 12th, but I can't be sure. When I close the VLC window with Alt+F4 after watching a video, sometimes the desktop focus (KDE Plasma) won't go back to the window I had been using before (typically Dolphin, where I opened the video from), but either to some other window, or to the desktop; this doesn't happen every time, only sometimes, and I can't reproduce the issue consistently. I thought it was something wrong with the Plasma focus stealing prevention, but even setting it to None didn't make the issue disappear.

I realize this could be a problem with Plasma, but I've only had this issue with VLC and no other program (closing Dolphin, Konsole, Firefox, Plasma System Settings). Also, not sure if related to this problem, but sometimes, when I close VLC I can see the frame of the video move to another spot on the screen for a split second before disappearing; I think this started to happen at around the same time as the other problem. I use an external screen connected to my laptop which I keep closed, in case it could matter
