Cups printserver unreachable when using SDDM [SOLVED]

I used to start my lxqt session without display manager using startx.
Cups printserver is reachable over network, no local cups server installed on client.

The environmental variable CUPS_SERVER="printserver.lan:631" is exportet via .bashrc.
In that case applications  on client do find the printserver and I can print normally from the applications print menu.

But if I use SDDM display manager to log in and start X applications suddenly do not find the printer anymore also .bashrc seems to be sourced (the defined aliases in .bashrc do work, echo $CUPS_SERVER returns 'printserver.lan:631').

What do I miss? Why do I cannot print when using SDDM while configuration works flawless when starting X without display manager? I could not find any clue about this behaviour.

Setting 'ServerName printserver.lan:631' in /etc/cups/client.conf did not make any difference.

Re: Cups printserver unreachable when using SDDM [SOLVED]

your personal bashrc is not sourced by normal session setup scripts. If you go check this in a terminal after the fact, then this is the environment of your terminal/bash shell and not of the session started by your display manager. If you want to set environment variables outside of your personal shell, define them in a more appropriate place. https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Enviro … _variables

Re: Cups printserver unreachable when using SDDM [SOLVED]

Thank you very much V1del!

Defining the CUPS_SERVER variable in /etc/profile did the trick.

Marked as solved.
