I installed spotify from the AUR. The application comes up fine with everything I expect except that when I press the play button nothing happens.
The troubleshooting section of https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/spotify#Installation doesn't mention this problem.
I have sound through the web browser (youtube,netflix...) just fine. I can play sounds from the command line using sox.play.
I see that people recommend changing the audio device that spotify is using. I believe by 'device' they mean 'audio component' not 'device' as in 'mobile device' - an application serving device.
But I don't see any setting for audio device. The only device mentioned is in the context of application serving device rather than a hardware component.
Just guessing here so...

Okay so it turned out to be permissions. I restarted my computer and this time security complained that spotify needed permission to run. Once I'd given up the password spotify began to play.

Just installed. All is well except that I'm prompted for a password to run it.
How do I turn this off?
