copy /var/cache/pacman/pkg/*.zst from another machine still download

Hi all,

I have twin machines where I perform the same upgrades almost at the same moment.

I want to save the downloads (because I am in an area where internet is metered)

I performed the upgrade on one machine, and then copied /var/cache/pacman/pkg/*.zst to the other one, but the last still download all the needed packages from internet.

should I make the copy another way? should I perform additional action?

Thank you.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Pacman … cman_cache
Caveat: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=266839 (not looked at that thread, yet ;-)

If the databases are only "almost the same" the other system will still have to fetch the packages that only has dated copies in its cache.
It's therefore "important" to also share /var/lib/pacman/sync/
