Hello,
I need to replace a windows proxy and I'm looking to use a basic archlinux install with just an http proxy. All we're looking for is user/group permissions, active directory/domain auth, whitelist and blacklist, wildcards. It would be nice if it scanned http for viruses/etc.. but not absolutely neccesary.
Any input on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

wow. that is all you want?
heh
/end sarcastic tone.
You might want to consider a distro that is already geared for that. ipcop (with advproxy and/or copfilter) or pfsense can do alot of that, but they are generally meant to be more of a firewall...though you can use them just as a web proxy too...
if you are really looking to roll your own, check out
squid
squidguard
HAVP
Privoxy
and maybe dansguardian

cactus,
Thanks for the reply. I took at ipcop and advproxy and it looks great. I've got an unused box laying around and I'll give that a try.
