Hi, I've been running Arch on my laptop for a few months now, but since the latest updates, the GPU randomly hangs.
Whenever e.g. I watch a video in mpv (or sometimes on opening a new tab in chromium), the graphics + input randomly lock up for a few seconds, and I'm unable to switch to another TTY. The audio keeps running in the background without stutter or anything. After a few seconds, everything is fine again.
In dmesg or journalctl -b the only thing I see is this:
journalctl -b:
kernel: [drm:amdgpu_job_timedout [amdgpu]] *ERROR* ring gfx timeout, but soft recovered
dmesg:
[ 1353.173921] [drm:amdgpu_job_timedout [amdgpu]] *ERROR* ring gfx timeout, but soft recovered
I have an AMD Ryzen 5 2500U with Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx.
I run the stock kernel and use the amdgpu driver. Because of an unrelated issue (random hard system lockups) I added
idle=nomwait
to the kernel options in grub. This has been working fine for a few months now.
This is (lspci -k | grep VGA):
03:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Raven Ridge [Radeon Vega Series / Radeon Vega Mobile Series] (rev c4)
Any ideas? Any other diagnostics I should look at?
EDIT: Solved. Added immu=pt to kernel parameters, following this thread.

There is a typo! Use: iommu=pt

Be prepared to be disappointed. I have had this issue for a while and more people now experiencing it. I have tried many, many kernel parameters, package downgrades and BIOS changes. It seems to go away but then returns as bad or even worse than ever, then goes away, then comes back. Many people have been having this and by now I have given up hope until the graphics driver packages are fixed. Oddly as well, for me it is Unity based games that guarantee a hang/crash. Other stuff runs nearly 100% fine, only had a couple of other events cause it. So, for me it seems that something the Unity engine does is more common at triggering this.
EDIT: Oh, wait. Why is this person going through such old threads commenting on them?? Pretty sure they worked out their typo by now!
