Many problems with IBM X60s

Well after getting Arch installed using a special FTP-install - I realize so many more problems.

I have som few questions:
I cannot get the wireless network working - no matter what - just no interface found.
Have installed kdenetwork - ipw2200 wireless_tools
have also tried with the ipw3945 but without any luck
And have Alsa and libs installed no no sound card - and yes its all enabled in bios and works fine i M$

I have installed hwd and the hwd -e look like this :

Hi

This works all fine for me.

For sound, look that the Modem is not disabled in the Bios, it must enable to get the sound to work.

for the wireless card, works fine here, is the "kill" switch off?(at the fron in the middle under the Fingerprint reader)

I have a T60, so it's not exactly the same, but similar still.

I opted for the atheros wireless, as ipw3945 is crap. For ipw3945, though, follow the directions outlined here: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wir … up#ipw3945

Also, as fk said, your modem needs to be enabled for sound to work. Mine was off by default. snd-hda-intel is also a bit crappy with the IBM/Lenvo hardware - 2.6.18 fixes some issues, but in the last kernel I had to set the "front" volume to above 95% to signify "on".

What do you mean by that ?? Is there another driver that you can use - I have followed the wiki about the install and afterwards getting this error - So rigth now I don' t know what to do?

I mean that when I purchased my laptop, I had a choice for an atheros card or the ipw3945. ipw3945 makes me ragingly mad (intel tries to circumvent the GPL), so I chose not to use it.

You can buy the X60s with atheros wireless chipset and with intel ipw3945 chipset. The atheros driver is open, and Intel have a regulary daemon ....

I think you have Kernel 2.6.18 ? right With 2.6.17 it works

Well - still gets the same error - but the sound seems to be OK now - BUT still having the same issues about the wireless network - Cannot get IPW3945 + d to work - And after the command:
wlanconfig ath0 create wlandev wifi0 wlanmode sta
Cannot create - NOT FOUND

So it will not work - But I'm quit sure it works - becaurse booting into windows starts it from the start

You're following the atheros instructions - those will not work for ipw3945. Please follow these instructions: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wir … up#ipw3945

Just to let you show that Í have tryed both. Without any luck !!
Trying to start ipw3945 from command -/etc/rc.d/ipw3945 restart:
/etc/rc.d/ipw3945d restart

And it's added in MODULES and in DAEMONS in rc.conf.
And following the wiki - there' s nothing more - But it still comes with this error in dmesg:

Is your main objection to the intel cards the beef you have with intel, or does the card/chipset itself actually suck?

OK first , make sense that the "kill" switch is Off

then do

modprobe ipw3945

and

/etc/rc.d/ipw3945d start

The little LED on the LCD must blinking

and then

ifconfig eth2 up

an then you can configure with iw- and ifconfig

and you are sure that wlan is activated in the Bios and that you don't have disabled the card via the Kill switch?

Could it be something about the errors in dmesg - and what to do about these errors??? Is there something wrong with the firmware

Nope not at all - just the latest directly.
Found out that someone had made a spedial kernel for IBM - just about to compile it - but else 2.6.18

Well - back again.

I reinstalled Arch one more, and before installing kde - the IPW3945 was actually working???

That it did show and blink in the LED ligth, but after installing kde i starts with the same error as before - Is this a problem or what - or am I the only one that uses kde

So gives that any new ideas - not that I can see something funny in the pacman.log or anywhere else

could the problem be kdenetwork???

Finally got it to work - so..

BUT is there something special about the settings here? Normally I just use the kde WIFImanager - but cannot fullfill the crypt???? I'm sure that its the correst one ?

But I cannot scan the network or anything??? So don'tknow what do next????
About the settings here - caurse I have tried with or without any crypt - but with same luck!
