Hi everyone,
I use GNOME 40 on Arch Linux and really enjoy it. However one thing bothers me and I just cannot find a fix for it: File Thumbnails (Images, Videos etc.) just won't display, I just get generic icons. I know that there was an issue in the past with the GTKFileChooser, but GNOME Files displays all thumbnails on Ubuntu so there must be a workaround. I have tried to delete the thumbnail cache already and tried to install alternative thumbnailers from ffmpeg and more to no avail.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I have also tested other GTK File Managers on Arch with the same issue for example Nemo, so I assume it must have something to do with my settings or (lack of) extensions.

I think you're missing packages. Have a look at https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/File_m … l_previews.

Try this :
sudo pacman -S tumbler poppler-glib ffmpegthumbnailer freetype2 libgsf raw-thumbnailer totem evinceLast edited by Khere (2021-06-06 10:46:54)

It turned out that the thumbnail issue was related to the linux-hardened kernel that I am using, which requires a replacement of the bubblewrap package with bubblewrap-suid in order to display them at all. Thank you for you replies, the additional packages have expanded the thumbnailing capabilities!
