Beryl Crashing when disabling desktop icons in kde

So I got my home computer & laptop configured with AIGLX + Beryl.

Both systems have the latest xorg from current, and beryl-svn from brain0's repo. Testing repo is not enabled.

Desktop is using beta nvidia drivers from nvidia-beta repo, laptop is running opensource radeon driver with direct rendering (was a bit of work, but after pouring through forums and wiki's finally got it working).
Also the laptop's card, a Radeon 7500 mobility had some rendering issues but I got it figured out and added the solution to the beryl wiki.

Both systems are using the kde autostart script provided in the wiki.

So... I start up kde, the autostart script triggers.... yay! Everything's just peachy. Both systems have fancy effects, no rendering issues, all is well... for now.

I can logout, reboot, etc, it continues working.

So I start configuring kde, one of settings I use is kcontrol->desktop->show icons on desktop (disable). Ubuntu-style basically.

I click apply and close the window. I can't right click on the desktop at all anymore! Note beryl is still working.

So I log out, and log back in. Beryl crashes before the splash screen even displays. No errors, no window manager!

I take a look at ~/.beryl.log. It's clean.

So I try and reload the window manager from beryl-manager in my system tray. Nope.

I disable kde session restoration and relog. Nope.

I create a new user account and log in. It works! So I copy over configuration files etc from my home folder over to my original account and log in. Nope.

I use reinstall the packages using recursive removal. Nope.

So I'm stuck. As mentioned earlier, I have two systems set up this way, this behavior is exactly the same on both systems, is perfectly reproducable every time, and reappears every time I change this setting on every user acount I create.

So is there something I can do?
