gcc not compiling to an executable

On a fresh install i tried to install gcc, but after it installed system got crashed don't know why. After a restart i tried to run gcc and it wont run and then i tried to reinstall but reinstallation failed stating there are some file exists in the filesystem so i deleted those and reinstalled gcc. It now showing version information on

gcc -v

but when i ran

gcc -o hello hello.c

it does nothing neither an error nor i get the hello executable.

You're for some reason compiling to "a" (or "a.out"), the "-o" parameter seems ignored but I can't say why.

gcc is hashed (/usr/bin/gcc)

I don't know it happened before with firefox and i had to reinstall arch completely, but now when i run

gcc -v

it is giving info but not compiling to an executable.

I'm pretty sure it produces an executable, it's just "a" or "a.out" rather than "hello" - have a look.
(At least that's what #3 says - you omitted the "-v" in the last test)

Sanity check: what's your $SHELL and do you use stupid stuff like "oh-my-zsh" or "oh-my-fish"?

I only both a.c and hello.c not producing executables.

I only deleted the files when on reinstallation pacman said file already exists on the filesystem only that and reinstalled gcc

This is actually an improvement, since now it says "COLLECT_GCC_OPTIONS='-v' '-o' 'hello' '-mtune=generic' '-march=x86-64'" instead of "COLLECT_GCC_OPTIONS='-v' '-o' 'a' '-mtune=generic' '-march=x86-64'"

Possibly a $PWD pollution?
Try an absolute output path:

/usr/bin-gcc -v -o /tmp/hello hello.c
