[SOLVED] Archlinux multi-monitor kernel-panic [amdgpu]

Hello there,

today I tried to install Archlinux via the newest available ISO (Current Release: 2021.06.01; Included Kernel: 5.12.8) on my Computer.
Hardware:
GPU: AMD RX5700XT
Two Gigabyte M27Q monitors

When booting from the ISO with both M27Q Monitors connected via DisplayPort I get the following kernel panic:
ae417618-90f3-4868-af8b-6de249c3b18d.jpg

When I boot from the ISO with only one M27Q Monitor connected via DisplayPort I don't get any error messages and and I get automatically logged into root on the archiso.
Same problem with the 2021.05.01 and 2021.04.01 ISO version.

With the newest ubuntu-21.04 ISO (linux 5.11.0) everything is working just fine.
Seems like a bug to me. Any suggestions what I should do?

Edit: The installation with only one monitor connected and the subsequent booting into the freshly installed environment works perfectly.
As soon as I connect the second monitor it leeds to the same kernel panic, even in the installed Archlinux environment.

Seems like this bug is more common:

Try recompiling the kernel with ALL AMD GPU modules available to compile. Then do a clean re-install of the AMD driver.

If the glitch still persists, you ought to report this bug to Linus Torvalds and/or AMD.

Re: [SOLVED] Archlinux multi-monitor kernel-panic [amdgpu]

Did you find a fix for this? I also have 2 M27Q's and a VG248 plugged into a 5700XT.

I did the install a month ago using "nomodeset" on my cmdline. Its been booting on the normal kernel with "amdgpu.dpm=0" in the cmdline. But that currently isn't working with the linux-zen kernel (5.13.4) or the latest linux-mainline (5.14rc2) from AUR.
The linux-mainline kernel was freshly compiled.

Currently using linux-lts (5.10.52-1) with "amdgpu.dpm=0" and could use a fix.

Hardware:
CPU: Ryzen 5800x
GPU: Reference Radeon 5700xt
Mobo: Asus Prime X570-Pro
Screens: Gigabyte M27Q, Gigabyte M27Q, Asus VG248

Edit: To clarify, all 3 screens are conected via Displayport.

Re: [SOLVED] Archlinux multi-monitor kernel-panic [amdgpu]

I have the similar issue with dual same monitors 1440p using DisplayPorts and Radeon RX 5700.
I used Linux Kernel 5.10 with "amdgpu.dpm=0", it worked fine, but no ideal solution.
I tried to upgrade it to Linux Kernel 5.13, but only black screen in booting and no TTY terminal.  I had to fix it with Live USB and removed "amdgpu.dpm=0", but Linux Kernel 5.13 started sometimes slow and bit long black screen.
I switched back to Linux Kernel 5.10 with "amdgpu.dpm=0"

Re: [SOLVED] Archlinux multi-monitor kernel-panic [amdgpu]

I had a similar issue on my 5700XT, booting with two monitors connected would cause issues but connecting the second display after the system had booted was working fine. The workaround described here fixed it for me https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/amd/-/issues/929 , it's a slightly different problem than what you have but I hope this helps.

Hello folks,
I've got a great follow up on this!

With the october ISO I now don't have this issue anymore and can boot into the live and installed systems without any problems.
