Hey everyone,
I was trying to switch display managers and saw that SLiM was pretty popular so I installed, enabled and then rebooted. Now I'm stuck at login with 'Failed to execute login command'.
Here's the rub though: when using ctrl - alt - f#, I am presented with a black screen. Since my TTY isn't working for some reason, entering 'console' in the textbox doesn't work and neither does switching to a TTY.
Please help!

I would like to boot into single-user mode, but I have no idea where to put any sort of kernel parameters since my TTY doesn't work either.
Also, I don't know if this changes anything, but I'm using vcrypt so at first I am prompted to decrypt the drive then it start booting.
OH and 1 more thing, when the boot completes I see a brief flash from the default (think its startx?) login prompt, but hardly enough time to put in my username+password. This means that a TTY window is working at first but I am still unsuccessful at ctrl+alt+f1 into it.

You edit the kernel parameters before that step. see the wiki entry, depending upon your boot loader/manager.

Awesome!! Thanks!!
I guess I'm a super user now B)
For others:
(I dualboot arch, so when I was given the option between arch and my other OS, I pressed 'e' (you can check here https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Kernel_parameters). Then I just added 's' as instructed in the wiki section that jasonwryan posted, putting my reboot into single-user mode.

You're free to use whatever you wish, but I don't think SLiM is a good choice:
Warning: The SliM project has been abandoned (last release was 2013), and is not fully compatible with systemd, including logind sessions. Consider using a different Display manager or Xinitrc.
