[SOLVED] The screen has weird distortion on startup

I recently updated the linux kernel, and now I sometimes have a weird screen distortion when I start up the machine, and when I enter my window manager, but when I force set the resolution using arandr, it disappears. I am using Lightdm and Xmonad, and

systemctl --failed

does not return any errors.

I have included some images of the weird colors, and I am happy to add other terminal outputs, but I don't know which to include.

Please replace the oversized images w/ thumnails/links (200x200 max) and post your xorg log.

Re: [SOLVED] The screen has weird distortion on startup

What kind of machine is it?
What is/are the graphics chipset(s)?

What if you change to a different console?  It the text legible?

I have a Thinkpad X1 Carbon gen 6. I think it has some intel graphics.

If console is referring to terminal, that does not impact anything. Yes, the text is barely legible, but not really, but it immoderately fixes itself after I change the resolution using arandr.

I am sorry! I didn't know about thumbnail images.

/dev/dri/card0: failed to set DRM interface version 1.4: Permission denied

point to the usual initial modesetting race miss: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Kernel … _KMS_start
