[KDE] Screen black after logging in with SDDM for one user

Heya,

After trying to play Dying Light (Linux native), my brother is unable to log into plasma from sddm. sddm appears and works fine, but once he logs into plasma, the loading screen appears and then the screen goes black, and the monitor displays an overlay:

HDMI1
Signal Out of Range
Resolution or Refresh Rate Not Supported

This also happened when he attempted to play the game.

Heres the thing: My account works and logs in fine, so its gotta be an issue with something in ~/.config, right?

I'm not familiar enough with KDE to know what config file might be messed up.

Looking at the journal:

It looks like he is being logged out? But it also says "Reached target shutdown" despite the machine remaining powered on.

Look into ~/.xsession-errors maybe you find something useful.

I installed plasma-wayland-session, and his account loaded in just fine, no black screen. Presumably that means the issue lies with X...

Even though that works as a solution, I really want to figure out what the hell is wrong with the X11 configuration...

The idea was to kinda move away ~/.local/share/kscreen …
