"Bad state" problem with kernel26

Hi,
I've got strange problem with kernel26 on my HP nx6310. When I've use linux, the next time I boot, it takes nearly 30 seconds to get through the bios. First I only see a blinking curser for 10 to 15 seconds and then for 10 to 15 seconds the bios with the HP logo. Other HP nx series users have the same problem.
This problem does not occur if "psmouse" is compiled as a module and if this module is unloaded before the computer is rebooted.
So I'm asking is there any chance to change kernel configuration and in next kernel26 relases make "CONFIG_MOUSE_PS2=m" as default?

Re: "Bad state" problem with kernel26

I think that may cause more problems or other users ("why won't my mouse work!?") but I'm guessing - it's definately worth a shot.  I am unsure if it's properly aliased so that udev can detect it.

It all else fails, it's probably worth it to compile a custom kernel:

Re: "Bad state" problem with kernel26

hello!

I've experienced the same problem after installing arch on my new hp nx7400. Workaround is to compile psmouse as a module, so i ask you to do that...

Ubuntu users only need to unloading module before shutdown / reboot by adding 'modprobe -r psmouse' to '/etc/init.d/halt' and '/etc/init.d/reboot' because they have psmouse as a module compiled to kernel.

I've noticed that arch devs made that floppy is now a module so I would be gratefull if they could do the same with psmouse.

Re: "Bad state" problem with kernel26

--- snip kernel parameters
i8042.noaux    [HW] Don't check for auxiliary (== mouse) port
--- snap
try adding i8042.noaux to boot prompt this should disable the ps2 port

Re: "Bad state" problem with kernel26

Yes, 8042.noaux option disabled ps2 port. Unfortunately touchpad stoped working too.

Query no Synaptics: 6003C8
(EE) Touchpad no synaptics touchpad detected and no repeater device
(EE) Touchpad Unable to query/initialize Synaptics hardware.
(EE) PreInit failed for input device "Touchpad"
(II) UnloadModule: "synaptics"

Psmouse is needed for synaptics and it should be unloaded just before the computer is rebooted.
