As the title says, plasmashell uses way more cpu than it reasonably should. This comes up most often when I'm playing League of Legends on lutris, causing massive frame drops, and killing plasmashell fixes the lag but isn't a real solution. I'm on a pretty new install, less than a month old, but I was able to play normally for a little while before this started happening.

Do you have system monitoring plasma widgets running, and if so what happens if you remove them? Does toggling the compositor on/off help (with Alt+Shift+F12) ?

Tried turning off compositor already, didn't help at all, and as far as widgets go all I have is the task b̶a̶r̶ manager with the default wifi, bluetooth, etc. As of right now plasmashell is doing this pretty much all the time, but it's only noticeable when I'm playing games.

Did you check the CPU load while playing or is that a clinical determination (game lags, killed plasma, game better => plasma certainly uses CPU)?
Do you run the game on the native resolution or do you change to another mode (to make it more playable)?
Is it better if you just "pkill -SIGSTOP plasmashell"? (-SIGCONT to, well, continue afterwards)

No, it is an issue with high plasmashell cpu usage, top says it's running anywhere from 50% to 100+% at any given time while it's running.
