[SOLVED] Text appears smaller than it should

Hi, I hope that this is not a dumb problem, but my text looks messed up in some applications.
It's not due to the applications themselves because the problem is the same among all of them, but probably because of some font configuration (which I never messed with).

Specifically, this problem is related to vscode, sublimetext and dmenu.
I really don't know how to explain this, the font "doesn't take all the available space and is slightly vertically misaligned".
The images will showcase the problem better.

I tried to look for similar problems and checkout the font page in the arch wiki, but still couldn't figure out how to solve this.

Re: [SOLVED] Text appears smaller than it should

Sounds like https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=267851

probably because of some font configuration (which I never messed with)

Let's see

pacman -Qikk fontconfig
fc-conflist

nevertheless - maybe some package is floating a bogus config file.

Is this a regression or has it always been like this?

Re: [SOLVED] Text appears smaller than it should

It has always been this way, not a regression.
By the way, now I've noticed that this problem affects also other applications, however, it is most noticeable in the ones I showed in the previous screenshot.

Re: [SOLVED] Text appears smaller than it should

Nope.
Are only monospace fonts affected?

fc-match -s monospace

Re: [SOLVED] Text appears smaller than it should

I don't think only monospace fonts are affected, even here on the arch forum I can see this happening.

However, it is most noticeable with monospace.

fc-match -s monospace

NimbusMonoPS-Regular.otf: "Nimbus Mono PS" "Regular"
FreeMono.otf: "FreeMono" "Regular"
FreeSans.otf: "FreeSans" "Regular"
FreeSerif.otf: "FreeSerif" "Regular"
SourceCodePro-Regular.otf: "Source Code Pro" "Regular"
D050000L.otf: "D050000L" "Regular"
Cantarell-Regular.otf: "Cantarell" "Regular"

Re: [SOLVED] Text appears smaller than it should

What if you remove the "gsfonts" package?

Re: [SOLVED] Text appears smaller than it should

Oh my god, it worked, thank you!

What was that package doing wrong?

Re: [SOLVED] Text appears smaller than it should

Making you use Nimbus…
Re-install the package (you'll likely need it "somehow" as dependency eg. for gimp) and configure the system to use eg. SourceSans and SourceCode as default fonts.
