Hello,
I just reinstalled arch because I noticed that my notebook was getting very hot (easily 70-80 degree C), but the fan wont spin up. I know that the fan curve should in theory be controlled by the bios to be OS independent. Many months ago, when it still contained a Windows install, I could definitely hear the fans spinning.
First of all, I can't rule out a hardware defect as I currently have no matching screwdriver to open the case. Is there a way to manually overrride the fan speed from the os via something like acpi to validate that it is still working?

Tools like nbfc seem to be not actively maintained and I would need to create a config. I am using the RedmiBook 14 II Ryzen 4700u. I tried to find out which embedded fan controller is used and thought it might be this one:
Trying family `National Semiconductor/ITE'... Yes
Found unknown chip with ID 0x8987
Here is the full dump of sudo sensors-detect: https://pastebin.com/D0b0gp0U

I think the laptop has only one cooling unit, so is it possible that I have to look for something in the area of amdgpu?
Thanks for the help

There was a known issue with 5.12.13 and the amdgpu kernel module that prevented it from going to low power states. Make sure you are up to date here, the issue in question was fixed with 5.12.14

Hey v1del,
thanks for the heads-up! uname -r indeed returned 5.12.13-arch1-2.
I'll try to upgrade, if I don't reply within the next 30 mins than the issue is likely still there.

Unfortunatly still 83 degrees and no sign of fan noise.

Looks like a hardware issue.

Bump. I opened the laptop and connected the fan to 5V from an arduino and the fan spun up perfectly. It could still be a problem with the connector, but I think it's a software issue.
Maybe the fan doesn't get a pwm signal?
Any ideas?
